The middle part of the shoe is made of patent leather, which doesn't involve much bending, so it should maintain its shine. The entire upper is thin but very strong, lightweight, and offers good support. Just make sure to tie the laces properly, as the thin nylon tongue tends to roll up if not secured, which can feel uncomfortable. This is my third pair of Kobe 9 Elite. The high-top design offers great protection for the Achilles and ankles, but compared to other Kobe low-top models, it sacrifices some flexibility and that ultra-close-to-the-ground feel. These shoes are better suited for heavier players who prioritize protection, especially forwards. The carbon fiber plate on the side provides solid support but does limit foot movement a bit and can feel a little intrusive.
